TEAM
Ekukhanyeni
was founded by the Executive Director in response to the dire situation
facing children and families in the targeted beneficiary areas.
The formation of the organization was intended as a vehicle through
which support could be provided to those so harshly affected by
poverty and underdevelopment. The
Founder has years of practical volunteer experience with HIV/Aids
infected/affected areas, specifically with mothers and children
(in most cases orphaned) in various townships and rural areas across
the country. This has afforded her the privilege to encounter and
work with amazingly courageous individuals.
This
journey has, however, not been without the despair one feels when
witnessing the suffering of those inflicted with the disease; when
witnessing the many babies and children who have been orphaned with
no emotional, spiritual or physical support; when witnessing the
anguish of a mother who cannot breastfeed her baby - for fear of
mother-to-child transmission - or provide other forms of nutrition
as a result of the impoverished living conditions – All factors
being an enormous motivation for the creation of 'Ekukhanyeni Relief
Project'.
‘Ekukhanyeni’
is a Zulu word meaning "at the Home where there is Light &
Hope”. Our vision is to bring hope to the homes and lives
we help to sustain. The members of the company come from very different
walks of life, but our individual talents, networks and skills are
being thrown together to shape a formidable team and project.
